8. Lavender/ Peppermint essential oil (10-15 drops)

9. Mineral water (if required to maintain the 70% concentration of a 100% alcohol solution i.e. 140 ml alcohol + 60 ml water)

Homemade hand sanitizer preparation :

Before you start, put on your hand gloves and protection glasses to protect your hands and eyes from any kind of splashes or extinguished flames.

We’re going to start by adding 100 ml of our aloevera gel which is the base for our hand sanitizer. We prefer aloevera gel because of its therapeutic properties and gentleness on the skin.

Now we’re going to add our next active ingredient that is Isopropyl alcohol. The key point to notice during our preparation is the concentration of this ingredient. You may get isopropyl alcohol or namely rubbing alcohol from a chemist store or online market. We need to maintain 70% concentration of alcohol by making it 2/3 of the mixture.

According to the WHO, world health organisation 60% or above 60% concentration of the isopropyl alcohol is required to kill all the germs on hand surface.

TNH readers must keep this in mind that the first two ingredients are the most important items of this sanitizer preparation. Rest of the ingredients are for enhanced functionality and elevated experience.

Next we add 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide 3% for enhanced protection from virus and bacteria on the surface.

Next we add 1 teaspoon of glycerine for enhanced skin moisture protection from isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide for people with more sensitive skin.

Next we add 1 tablespoon of astringent which is a great natural cleanser and not drying like alcohol. It provides cool soothing effect to skin.

Next is a quarter to half a teaspoon of our tea tree oil. Tea tree oil at a 0.5% to 1% concentration has been found to kill most types of bacteria.

Our last two ingredients are optional but we’re going to add a quarter teaspoon vitamin E oil or simply 2-3 capsules of vitamin E for added moisture.

And finally 10-15 drops of lavender essential oil for its scent and antibacterial properties.

This completes our preparation. Let’s give it a good stir to mix it well for consistency. Now our hand sanitizer is ready for action.

We’re going to pour this into our little 50 ml squirt bottles or any bigger pump/ spray container and tada it’s that easy.

Supplies for our DIY hand sanitizer preparation:

1. Aloe vera gel (100 ml, basically 1/3 of the required quantity)

2. Isopropyl Alcohol 70% (200 ml, 2/3 of the required quantity)

4. Pure Glycerine (1 teaspoon)

5. Natural astringent (1 tablespoon)

6. Tea tree oil 1% (a quarter to a half teaspoon)

7. Vitamin E oil (a quarter teaspoon)

8. Lavender/ Peppermint essential oil (10-15 drops)

9. Mineral water (if required to maintain the 70% concentration of a 100% alcohol solution i.e. 140 ml alcohol + 60 ml water)
